Peregrine Racing Secure Another Strong Result in Detroit

Belle Isle, Mich. (June 7, 2022) — Peregrine Racing’s Carbahn Motorsports prepped No. 39 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO team finished in sixth place in the Grand Prix of Detroit this weekend. At a track where the team has had fantastic pace in the past, Jeff Westphal and Robert Megennis optimized their race, finishing the event in their starting position and maintaining their strong recent form in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

After an intense battle on the opening lap, Megennis dropped down to seventh place but was able to stay on the bumpers of the cars ahead until the pit stop and driver change window.

Following a flawless driver change and stop by the Peregrine crew, Jeff Westphal took the wheel and set out to maximize the closing stint. The Pro was able to maneuver his way back into sixth place thanks to a daring dive into Turn 3 before the halfway mark. From there, he was able to maintain position through to the checkered flag.

“I’m proud of our Peregrine Racing with Carbahn Motorsports team for running a clean race without any mistakes," said team owner Mark Siegel. "Robert and Jeff took the car right to the limit without going over it, and the crew executed with the pits and strategy. We come away with a solid finish that keeps us in the points race as we head to the Six Hours of the Glen. It’s a race we ran last year, finishing in the top 10, and I’m confident we can take all we’ve learned and improve this year. We’re due for some better luck when it comes to endurance races, so I’m excited to see what happens!”

The 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season continues for Peregrine Racing with the third Michelin Endurance Cup event of the year, the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen on June 23-26. Green flag for the 6-hour enduro waves at 10:40 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 26. Full coverage can be streamed on Peacock with partial network coverage on USA Network beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. Peregrine’s GT4 effort will resume with the Tioga Downs Casino Resort 120 on Saturday, June 25, with coverage on Peacock beginning at 3:45 p.m. ET.

INSIGHT FROM THE GTD COCKPIT:

Jeff Westphal
“I’m happy with the result we were able to achieve this weekend! The pace that some of our competitors showed is unmatchable right now with the current BoP, but I’m really happy that the team executed perfectly. We checked all the boxes and were able to gain some great points in the championship standings.”

Robert Megennis:
“We ended up sixth here in Detroit. I’m not thrilled with the result, but I think we did the best we could based on the Balance of Performance. I dropped down a position at the start, but the team executed a perfect pit stop and Jeff was able to gain it back in his stint. Every weekend we’re getting better and I’m excited for Watkins Glen! We had a great test there a few weeks ago so I think we’re going to have a great car showing up. I want to thank every member of this team for their relentless hustle and I have to extend a big thank you to Optimizely, DataRobot, Palantir, Gigamon and SailPoint for their partnership and support. Onto the Glen!”
